911th Airlift Wing Supporters Greet First Lady Michelle Obama
MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- First Lady Michelle Obama was in Pittsburgh to help her husband's re-election efforts, but to also honor military families.
Her first stop was the 911th Airlift Wing in Moon Township which has been targeted for closure by the Air Force.
Demonstrators at the entrance wore T-shirts and held signs to urge Mrs. Obama to push her husband to keep the base open.
That was the message Mrs. Obama received directly when she was greeted by service men and women and their spouses upon landing.
Senior Airman Tasha Gresco's two children wore shirts with the message.
"The shirts speak for themselves," Gesco said. "She said the Air Force is doing everything they can so we'll leave that decision in their hands."
Senior Airman Domenic Mash, the first to welcome the First Lady, refrained.
"It's above my pay grade – way above my head," he said. "It's not for me to say something like that."
His wife, Katlyn, however, was more direct.
"I mentioned it, I did because it's hard," she said. "We just moved out here a couple months ago and she just wished us the best and, you know, what can you do? It's out of our hands."
