911th Airlift Wing Members Return From Afghanistan
MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- More than 20 members of the 911th Airlift Wing's Civil Engineering Squadron returned to Pittsburgh Monday night after a six-month deployment in Afghanistan to support Operation Enduring Freedom.
While overseas, they also learned about a battle brewing back at home – the fight to save their base from closure.
The Airmen had little to say when asked about the proposal. They said they'd rather focus on being home with their loved ones.
Airman First Class Letta Parker told KDKA, "We had a good tour out there. I'm not worried about it."
The Air Force announced that it planned to close the wing as part of a restructuring plan aimed at cutting nearly $9 billion from the military budget.
Local lawmakers and Moon business leaders are urging the Air Force to keep the base open.
