Missing Braddock Woman Found
BRADDOCK (KDKA) – Police have found a woman who wandered away from a personal care home.
According to police, 75-year-old Patricia King walked away from the Davis Personal Care Home on 6th Street in Braddock sometime overnight. Officials said she suffers from Alzheimer's and dementia.
A search and rescue team from the Allegheny County Emergency Management along with Braddock Police, paramedics and volunteer firefighters commenced a search.
She was found at about 2 p.m. Monday at a Burger King in North Versailles.
King said she was okay as she walked back into the personal care home.
"She walked out of this facility all the way straight out Braddock Avenue past the mill, somehow she made a left and wound up on Third," Braddock Police Chief Frank DeBartolo said.
Within 12 hours she was found in North Versailles by a police officer drinking a cup of coffee and eating a candy bar.
"She seems to be in good spirits and when I started asking her a couple of questions, she actually laughed about the whole – I'm just glad it's a happy ending," DeBartolo said.
As for why she left, King said she felt it was her time to leave.
Managers checked the alarm on the door to make sure it was working. Police say they will check back with the nursing to prevent walkaways from happening in the future.
King has been living at the home since February and is originally from McKeesport.
