7-Year-Old Put On Wrong School Bus, Hit By Car At Stop
STOWE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A local mom says her daughter was struck by a car after the 7-year-old was put on the wrong school bus Thursday.
Faith Sledge, 7, found herself at Children's Hospital at the end of her first day of second grade. According to her mom, the incident shouldn't have ever happened.
"It definitely had everything to do with the fact that she was put in the wrong bus," Temisha Sledge, Faith's mom, said.
She says Faith was supposed to go to Brightside Academy in McKees Rocks after school today.
Temisha said she filled out all the appropriate paperwork with the Sto-Rox School District that would ensure her daughter got there safely.
But instead, Temisha says a teacher from the elementary school put the 7-year-old on the bus that took her back to her house in Stowe Township.
When Faith was let off on Broadway Avenue, she got off the bus unsure of what to do next. She says she looked both ways, and then she decided to try and find her way home.
"They dropped me off at the wrong bus stop," said Faith. "I didn't see a car, so I tried to run across the street but it hit me."
The driver who was only going about 10 miles an hour stopped and 911 was called. Temisha, who lives nearby, could hear the commotion from her home.
"I sat in my home and heard sirens and ambulances and never would've thought that it was my child that was just around the corner from my house," said Temisha.
Moments later the daycare called asking where Faith was.
Temisha says she got in her car, saw the scene and then discovered it was Faith. The girl was released from Children's Hospital with just some scrapes, a blessing according to her mom.
Sto-Rox School District Superintendent Frank Dalmas released this statement Friday on the incident:
"The School Dist made contact with the family. All policies and procedures to transport the student were done appropriately. The district is actively working to ensure all transportation requests are evaluated for their accuracy. At the time of the occurrence, the School District did not have in its possession the transportation request from her mother."
