Fans Take In NHL Hall Of Fame Exhibit
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Winter Classic is more than just a game – it's a celebration of hockey and fans were on the North Shore taking in the sights that come with the big game.
They were in no rush moving through the Hockey Hall of Fame exhibit. Every piece of hardware ever won by the Penguins is on display – except one.
The Stanley Cup will be there Thursday and Friday.
"And obviously the Stanley Cup is a focal part and anybody that plays hockey and every fan's dream [is] just to see the Stanley Cup and it's going to be here from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. [Friday]," Philip Pritchard with the NHL Hall of Fame said.
The outdoor hockey rink has been drawing fans to play and to remember.
"It's just something special," Rich Walsh of Ross Township said. "When I heard it was the boards from the Mellon Arena, it takes me back many years watching games there with my father and my brothers."
Meantime, Winter Classic merchandise is hot and it's not hard to guess which players are the best sellers.
"Sid is the No. 1 selling jersey, but I just want it to be clear – in Washington, it is Alex," Brian Jennings, executive vice president of NHL marketing, said.
But, as John Shumway reports, Penguins gear is outselling Capitals gear.
