50 Pot Plants Found, Suspect Thought They Were Tomato, Pepper Plants

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- Two people have been charged after around 50 marijuana plants were discovered in Uniontown on Wednesday.

Police say they received a tip that a man was loading pot plants into a car parked on Lincoln Street.

When officers arrived, two people identified as Lisa Murray and Carl Moore were standing outside the vehicle.

According to a report, the officer noticed "leafy plants" inside the trunk of the car before Murray shut the trunk.

When police asked to search the vehicle, Murray agreed but stated that she was told the plants were tomatoes and peppers by Moore.

"If they want to go with that story they can," said Lt. Tom Kolencik. "They will be sent away to the lab and tested."

Officers found 50 marijuana plants inside the trunk and also found several other sitting in the yard.

"Typically one plant yields one pound, so that's 56 pounds of marijuana, which is a lot, it has a high street value," Kolencik.

Moore was charged with possession, possession with intent and possession of drug paraphernalia. Murray was charged with criminal conspiracy acts.
