4 Injured In Armstrong Co. Coal Truck Crash
KITTANNING (KDKA) -- Four people were injured and a road in Armstrong County was shut down for several hours Friday after an accident involving a coal truck.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. on Route 422 in Kittanning.
According to state police, 31-year-old John Forte of Tarentum was driving the coal truck, headed east on Route 422, when he lost control. The truck rolled onto its side and slid into the westbound lane.
That's where the coal truck crashed into a pickup truck, causing a third vehicle – an SUV – to also rear-end the pickup.
The driver and passenger in the pickup truck were both seriously injured. They were flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital.
The driver of the coal truck and the driver of the SUV only suffered minor injuries.
Forte was checked out at an Armstrong County hospital.
Police, paramedics and firefighters from around Armstrong County were all called to the scene.
Route 422 was shut down for about five hours while police investigated and crews cleared the scene.
State Police in Kittanning continue to investigate the crash.
