Family Escapes Burning Bellevue Home
BELLEVUE (KDKA) -- A family of four escaped from their burning home in Bellevue early this morning without injury; now authorities are looking into what sparked the blaze.
Fire crews were called to a house in the 500-block of Madison Avenue around 3 a.m.
Lisa Eggers' husband awakened after hearing a noise and got up to find the house on fire.
"My husband's screaming for us to get out of bed, that there was a fire -- confusion, commotion," Eggers told KDKA-TV. "He ran outside. My youngest son ran behind him. I went to get my oldest son out and make sure my youngest son was out… I came out, my husband was trying to put it out with the garden hose. I was screaming because I couldn't find my kids."
When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames.
"We had to get two folks out from the inside of the building," Bellevue Fire Chief Glenn Pritchard told KDKA-TV. "They were looking for a -- I don't know if it was a younger son or child or something, I'm not sure how old he was -- but they had to make sure he was accounted for and our crews escorted him out the back door away from the fire."
Everyone got out safely, including the family pets.
The home sustained heavy damage .
While the cause is under investigation, the fire is believed to have started on the outside front porch. Smoke and flames quickly spread to the second floor.
The Allegheny County fire marshal is now investigating.
