Officer Sciullo Park In Bloomfield Vandalized
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Officer Paul Sciullo Memorial Park in Bloomfield was vandalized overnight.
Police say those responsible tried to pry the badge from the "Officer Paul J. Sciullo II Memorial Field" sign in the park.
According to authorities, graffiti was also found in the park, which is located under the Bloomfield Bridge.
"I don't get it," Public Works Director Rob Kaczorowski said. "It's something you really don't understand."
Sciullo's parents spoke to KDKA-TV's Brenda Waters.
"The worst thing that could happen to us has already happened,"Sue Sciullo, Paul's mother, said. "What happened to Paul, Eric and Stephen was the worse. This can be fixed."
The Sciullos say they visit the park often.
"This wasn't a personal thing, this is just vandalism – that's all."
During a routine foot patrol just before 3 a.m. Friday, police found a man and a woman sitting on bleachers in the park drinking beer. They also had three cans of spray paint in a paper bag.
Sean Gardner, 22, of Mt. Oliver, and 21-year-old Alexandra Albeck, of the South Side, were cited for violating city park hours and for consuming alcohol in a city park.
They are not being charged with the vandalism.
The park was dedicated to Officer Sciullo following his death in April of 2009.
He was one of three officers shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a call in Stanton Heights.
