4-1-Zoo: Top QB Recruit From Ohio Commits To Pitt
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- Ohio quarterback Tra'von Chapman gave a verbal commitment to head coach Paul Chryst and the Pitt Panthers Thursday.
Chapman, a four-star recruit from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent, Ohio, is one of the top rated players at his position in the country. He was Pitt's top target for its 2013 recruiting class, and he picked the Panthers over offers from Akron, Arizona, Boston College, Illinois and Wisconsin.
Chapman passed for over 2,800 yards and rushed for another 800 yards as a junior at Theodore Roosevelt, combining to score 37 touchdowns.
He has many of the same attributes as former Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson, who Chryst coached last season in his final year with the Badgers. Wisconsin won the Big Ten and went on to play in the Rose Bowl.
Chapman and Fairborn, Ohio, offensive tackle Carson Baker committed Thursday and bring Chryst's 2013 class to 12 players.
The commitment of Chapman is huge for Chryst, as he had previously lost out on a few big-time recruits from the area. Chapman is the marquee commitment in the Chryst era, albeit a short period of time.
