Shootings In McKeesport Leave 2 Injured
MCKEESPORT (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after gunfire broke out late Wednesday night in McKeesport, leaving two people wounded and bullet holes in two vehicles.
Officials say two people were injured in the incident. One was wounded in the back and the other in the abdomen.
"It does appear that it was a planned event, if you will - an ambush," said Lt. Andy Schurman, of the Allegheny County Police Department.
Investigators say the gunfire broke out overnight, first on Coursin Street. Minutes later, a white SUV took fire on Beaver Street.
"There was a SKS rifle recovered from the scene," said Lt. Schurman. "There were also several other casings recovered."
According to police, one of the people injured in the incident was one of the alleged shooters. He sought medical attention and was then arrested.
Police say the other person who was shot got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"A passing motorist drove into that gunfire and was struck. He was seriously injured, transported to a local area hospital," Lt. Schurman said.
The 70-year-old man's shot up red jeep eventually stopped on Centennial Street. County police say they believe they have one of the individuals involved in custody.
"We believe this is an ongoing dispute between these two factions," Lt. Schurman added. "Until these guys are incarcerated it's going to continue."
Police are no longer looking for a Dodge Durango that they released a description of earlier today. However, anyone with information on the case is being asked to contact police.
