3 RVs Destroyed By Fire In Westmoreland County

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Three RVs were destroyed in a Wednesday night fire that may be suspicious.

According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out at K Rentals along Route 30 in Hempfield Township around 10:40 p.m.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the flames, but not before the three RVs up for sale were destroyed.

"Probably between $50,000 and $75,000 per unit," K Rentals Owner Terry Kovach said. "As soon as we looked at the RV itself, it was weird because there is nothing connected to them. There's no electricity. The batteries are disconnected. So, there is actually no place to have an electrical short or a fuel issue."

Kovach says the trailers are on consignment. Their job is to try and sell them. The three RVs were parked right in the front row of the lot along busy Route 30. Shielded and concealed by the darkness, he believes someone went into a trailer and started the fire.

"We're waiting on the fire investigator to do their job, but they were pointing out that there was a hole in the middle of the floor and there is nothing there in the middle of the floor to cause that type of hole," Kovach said.

State police are planning on returning to the scene today to continue their investigation.
