3 Teens Injured In Homewood Drive-By Shooting
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating after three teens were shot Sunday evening in Homewood.
The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. in the 7100-block of Kedron Street.
Police say a black SUV with tinted windows slowly rolled down the street and opened fire.
KDKA's Bob Allen Reports:
Four teenagers were standing on a porch at the time. Three of them were hit by the gunfire.
A 16-year-old girl suffered gunshot wounds to the head and upper body. As of Monday morning, she had undergone two surgeries and was last listed in critical condition.
A male victim underwent surgery for for multiple gunshot wounds to the leg. He was last listed in stable condition.
A second female victim was treated and released after being grazed by a bullet.
"It was pretty traumatic for her, emotionally realizing that just in the blink of an eye she could be gone," said the mother of one of the victims.
Police say at least two people were inside the black SUV - a driver and most likely the shooter in the passenger seat.
"There was no exchange of words," said Pittsburgh Police Commander RaShall Brackeny. "There was no argument that preceded the shooting, there was no confrontation that preceded the shooting as well."
Investigators hope surveillance video from nearby schools, Westinghouse and neighbors' surveillance cameras can give them a better look at the suspects' vehicle.
KDKA's Heather Abraham Reports:
Neighbors say this a violent trend that needs to end.
"It's just tragic," said neighbor William Anderson. "It's sad what's happened to our community. We're basically committing genocide among ourselves, all this violence, there's too many innocent victims."
The shooting took place in the vicinity of the home of a high-ranking Pittsburgh Police officer. However, they are not believed to be the target of the violence.
"There is no evidence that police officers or a particular officer has or is being targeted in this incident," said Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Chief Cameron S. McLay.
"It's unfortunate, and because it was a police officer's porch, how much more dangerous do we think that these young guys are that they would do that," the mother of one of the victims said.
