3 Injured In Chartiers Twp. House Fire

CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Three people were taken to area hospitals after a Sunday morning fire in Chartiers.

According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out at a home on Railroad Street around 8 a.m.

The wood frame house was quickly engulfed in flames, which a neighbor says forced a woman, her daughter and the daughter's boyfriend to jump out of the second-story window.

"They got lucky," said neighbor Ron Marshall. "Good thing, one of the girls woke up, either the mom or the daughter woke up, 'cause of the smoke and they just jumped right out the window, just like they were."

Another neighbor, Tyler Richter lives a few doors away, he went outside and immediately shot video on his cell phone.

"I went on the road and I seen the fire," he said. "It was at least up to that telephone pole, or even higher and it was scary. I went next door, I seen her coughing and she has asthma. It was horrible."

Neighbors say Jennifer Snow was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, her daughter, Naomi and Josh Long were taken to Cannonsburg Hospital.

Their conditions are not known.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown, but officials believe a space heater may have sparked it.

The fire also destroyed all of the family's possessions. Neighbors say they'll try to help.

"They need clothes, furniture, they need all kinds of stuff. They have nothing," said neighbor Sherry Fullgraph. "There's the house. They don't have anything."
