3 Arrested After Vandalizing Burgettstown School
SMITH TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Three people have been arrested after allegedly breaking in and trashing a Washington County high school last week.
According to Smith Township Police, surveillance video proved to be the key to the arrests of two juveniles and one adult.
The adult has been identified as Ronald Fay Boyer, 19, of Burgettstown.
The three are accused of breaking into the Burgettstown High School and causing nearly $100,000 in damage.
Boyer is now facing charges including burglary, criminal trespassing and corruption of minors.
Around midnight on Thursday, the three entered the school through a window in the cafeteria and then went about breaking everything in sight.
"It's frustrating due to the fact the individuals responsible – or the accused individual – are former students and when you reach out to help these students and they come back and destroy the school," Principal David Palmer said.
They were wearing bandanas, but the surveillance cameras allowed the school to get a basic identification on a couple of the suspects.
The first person they brought in was one of the three suspects and it took about five minutes of questioning before he confessed and all three were then arrested.
"Some of the school officials paid close attention to how they were walking through the hallway. I had one of my officers bring in a few of those individuals. The first one that he brought in – a juvenile – confessed," Smith Township Police Chief Winford LaRue said.
Both juveniles were charged and released to their parents.
When police went to Boyer's home, another man said he wasn't home. However, Boyer was home and police charged the other person with hindering an arrest.
