20th Anniversary Of First Night Promises To Be Big Celebration
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – December 1994, the newly formed Attack Theater warms up for their first performance in the very first First Night.
"Twenty years later, Attack Theater is here to present a short excerpt from Traveling – a piece the company will perform this year at the August Wilson Center Theater," said director Darcy Kucenic.
Attack Theater is one of many attractions on New Year's Eve this year. Ice sculptor Richard Bubin has plans for a 40-foot labyrinth of ice.
Come through the entrance, walk through it and come into a royal throne room where you can sit and get your picture taken on the 20th anniversary.
Headliner Charles Bradley will channel the legendary James Brown – and if you want to be a puppet on the annual parade – just show up at the convention center, grab a puppet and start to march.
Meanwhile, yoyo guy Mark Hayward promises, "Forty to 60 minutes of jokes and comedy, and of course, yoyo tricks."
Balloon artist Amber Liggett will have them lining up in Fifth Avenue Place.
"Make over 100 shapes, so they're going to tell me what they want, they'll show me the color and I'll make it for them," Ligget says. "So I'll have a lot of smiles when I'm done."
At night's end, the new year will be ushered in with the glittering rising globe and fireworks.
