2011 NHL Free Agency: Who's Left?
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The unrestricted free agency period began Friday at noon and many of the best available players have inked new deals.
The Pittsburgh Penguins saw Max Talbot and Mike Rupp depart, while adding veteran Steve Sullivan to the mix.
So, who is left after the initial flurry of signings? Here's a look at some of the best players still available.
Forwards
Jason Arnott
Arnott was traded to the Washington Capitals from the New Jersey Devils at the trade deadline last season. He managed to score 17 goals and add 14 assists in 73 games last season.
Arnott has 400 goals and 504 assists in his career, but has seen his production decrease over the last few seasons.
Vaclav Prospal
Prospal missed most of the 2010-11 season due to injury, but still had nine goals and 14 assists in 29 games.
In 978 career games, Prospal has 227 goals and 453 assists.
Antti Miettinen
Miettinen has never been up with the league leaders in points, but he does have at least 15 goals in each of the last four seasons. He set a career-high with 20 goals in 2009-10.
In 472 career games, Miettinen has 89 goals and 123 assists.
Defensemen
Tomas Kaberle
Kaberle was brought in by the Boston Bruins to help them take a run at the Stanley Cup. Now, it doesn't appear as if he'll be back in Boston next season.
The 33-year-old defenseman had four goals and 43 assists last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Bruins.
He also added 11 assists during the Bruins' Stanley Cup championship run.
Bryan McCabe
One of McCabe's biggest assets is his booming shot and work on the power play. The 36-year-old veteran was traded to the New York Rangers from the Florida Panthers last season.
He tallied seven goals and 21 assists in 67 games in 2010-11 and has 145 goals and 383 assists in 1,135 games.
