2 winning Powerball tickets totaling $300K sold in Pittsburgh area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Two people are starting off 2025 a little richer after a pair of Powerball tickets totaling $300,000 were sold in the Pittsburgh area.
The winning tickets, worth $150,000 a piece, were bought at the Giant Eagle on Washington Road in Washington and the Fine Wine & Good Spirits on East Waterfront Drive in Homestead, the Pennsylvania Lottery announced on Tuesday. Each store gets a $500 bonus for selling the winning tickets.
The Pennsylvania Lottery says the two tickets each matched four of the five white balls drawn on Monday, 9-19-33-38-39, and the red Powerball, 1. The Power Play multiplier was 3, bumping up the prize from $50,000 to $150,000.
Nearly 27,000 other tickets won prizes of various amounts in the drawing, the Pennsylvania Lottery says. The lottery reminds players to check every ticket every time.
Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball winners have a year from the drawing date to claim their prizes. Winners should immediately sign the back of their tickets and visit palottery.com for more information on how to file a claim. The lottery says it doesn't know who has won until prizes are claimed and tickets are validated.
The Powerball jackpot is now worth $178 million ahead of Wednesday's drawing.
The Pennsylvania Lottery says it's the only state lottery to direct all its proceeds to programs that benefit older residents. Since ticket sales began in 1972, the lottery says it has contributed more than $36 billion to programs like property tax and rent rebates, transportation and care services.
