2 Top Administrators At Shuman Center Fired
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- KDKA Investigators have confirmed that two top administrators at Allegheny County's Shuman Juvenile Detention Center have been fired.
A letter was distributed to employees last Thursday indicating Director Jack Simmons and Deputy Director Lynette Drawn-Williamson are no longer employed at Shuman Center.
This comes after a seven-month long investigation by the county and by the State Department of Public Welfare.
Starting last summer, former and current employees told KDKA that management at the facility was "corrupt," that assaults on staff and residents often went unreported, and that if a staff member spoke up, that person would be punished.
Over half the staff at Shuman signed a petition asking the county to investigate.
The letter says that William Stickman will now serve as interim director.
He retired as the Deputy Secretary of Corrections for the state and also served as the interim warden at the Allegheny County Jail in 2012.
Lillian Reese-McGhee has been appointed deputy director. She is a CPA and has worked in both county and city government.
The letter says Stickman will start meeting with workers next week.
