2 Teens Accused In Rec Center Attack Turn Themselves In
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The two teens accused in the brutal beating of another teenager, which was captured on cell phone video outside of the Brookline rec center, have turned themselves into police.
The two teenagers, one 17-years-old and the other 14-years-old, were handcuffed and taken into police custody.
Both teens, from the Brookline-Beechview area, are now charged with conspiracy, aggravated assault and robbery.
Police say the two suspects appear in cell phone video.
In the video, they are accused of beating another teenage boy allegedly because he posted a partial picture of their basketball shoes on a Facebook page and called them fake.
"It was definitely wrong, yes," said a family member of one of the suspects.
"Certainly, like I said, his mother certainly did not raise him to be that way," she added. "But at some point, we lose control of our teenagers, and then – I told you to do the right thing 5,000 times, you still go out there and do whatever you want to do."
The incident happened at the Brookline rec center last week. The suspects screamed the name of an Internet website, "World Star," where fights are posted as they started to attack the victim.
"Ya'll made it a whole big thing that it wasn't," said a family member of the second suspect. "And ya'll just… just a little boy and his mom in here crying, come on man."
KDKA's Marty Griffin: "But he's being charged with aggravated assault, sir. And robbery and conspiracy."
"He's not been charged with nothing," the man said. "Go talk to him and see what he's getting charged for, nothing."
