2 State Troopers Help Deliver Baby On I-79
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A pregnant woman from Butler was two weeks from her due date, but her baby couldn't wait for a trip to the hospital.
The newborn made her entrance into this world along interstate 79, thanks to the help of some Pennsylvania State Troopers.
Kayla and Anita McDade were about to take a mother-daughter shopping trip, when Kayla's contractions changed their plans. They share recollections of Reva's birth in the comparative comfort of a hospital room.
"I said, 'We're skipping Walmart'," says Anita. "'We're going straight to Magee.'"
Kayla's mother was driving her south on I-79, when Kayla called 911.
Troopers Ed Joyner and Thomas Plunkard arrived almost immediately. They knew what to do.
"One held her as she was coming out," Kayla says, "and the other one helped me push. He was holding half of her and they were trying to get me to push again. And I said, 'I can't do it.' But three pushes later I got little Reva Lynn."
They both offered thanks to the trooper who came through. Someday, little Reva will thank them, as well.
