Fatal Route 51 Crash In Fayette County Probed
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- State police say the weather played a role in a double fatal crash in Fayette County.
The crash happened on Route 51 in Franklin Township, north of Uniontown at about 1:20 p.m. Monday.
According to police, Clifford Cumberland, 78, of Vanderbilt, was driving his blue Honda Civic northbound when he lost control in heavy rain, crossed the median and spun into oncoming traffic.
That's when Cumberland's vehicle collided with a dump truck heading south.
Cumberland was killed in the crash along with his passenger, 46-year-old Terry Hoak of Waltersburg, Pa.
The dump truck driver, 42-year-old Keith Walls, of Uniontown, was not hurt.
