2 Hit, 1 Dragged In Summer Hill Hit & Run Incident

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police are looking for a driver who reportedly hit two family members, then dragged another.

According to police. the incident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday in the city's Summer Hill neighborhood.

John Pignanelli told KDKA he was driving a U-Haul van when someone rear-ended it.

He and his mother-in-law got out to exchange insurance information when the driver tried to get away.

His mother-in-law suffered a serious leg injury when she was hit. Paramedics rushed her to Allegheny General Hospital where she was treated for several hours and released.

"They tried speeding off. So I jumped on the hood," said Pignanelli. "I tried to keep them from going. He [Pignanelli's brother-in-law] grabbed onto the back. Then, after they hit me and ran me over, he tried grabbing the back of the car and they drug him 30 feet down the road."

The incident happened at the corner of Evergreen Road and Ivory Avenue.

There was a toddler in the van who was unharmed.

Pignanelli says he was able to read a portion of the license plate. He told officers the first three letters were H-C-Y.

He says there were several people in the car and that they were wearing green clothing and Mardi Gras style beads. The car was gray in color.

Kevin Fields, Pignanelli's brother-in-law, was also in the van. He says he's thankful it wasn't worse.

"I'm holding on to the back of the car," he said. "I'm thinking I'm going to keep going and keep rolling. God's with us. That's all it is."
