2 Construction Workers Hit By Vehicle Near Westinghouse Bridge
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Two construction workers were hit by a vehicle near the Westinghouse Bridge Tuesday morning.
The accident happened on the Route 30 bridge over Bessemer Avenue just before 10 a.m.
Police say when workers saw the car heading toward them, several jumped over a guard rail. A male worker suffered a leg injury after being hit by the car. A female worker was also struck.
They were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. They have since been released.
The workers were reviewing a project that is due to get underway next weekend. According to PennDOT, the bridge is scheduled to be replaced.
The Brayman workers are contracted by PennDOT to replace the Route 30 Bridge.
The driver of the black Nissan told police she was on her way home after working the night shift. She suffered a large bump on her forehead and was taken to the hospital.
Before the impact, other workers told police they heard a loud bang from the black Nissan just before it hit the jersey barrier.
There is no word if the female driver will face charges.
But the cause of the crash is under investigation.
