Elderly Couple Found Dead In Ross Twp. Apartment
ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after an elderly couple was found dead Tuesday in their Ross Township apartment building.
They were discovered shortly after 5 p.m. at the Charlemagne Circle apartment complex, a high rise unit that overlooks McKnight Road.
Ross Township Police and a forensics unit were called to the scene.
The husband and wife were said to be in their 80s and in poor health.
Their bodies were reportedly found when their son called a family friend to go over and check on them.
That family friend found them dead inside the apartment.
Police say they're not ready to release any information about the cause of death.
"The Ross Police were called here to this home this evening to investigate two deceased people that were found inside," said Det. Brian Kohlhepp, of Ross Township Police. "It's an elderly couple that's in their 80s. They were both diagnosed with medical issues, some that have been ongoing and some that have been more rapidly approaching recently. This appears to be a self-contained incident, just involving the two of them. At this point in time, we're still investigating so we can't release much more details, but we're not looking for anybody else. We don't believe that there's anybody else involved outside of the couple themselves."
The investigation continues.
UPDATE (Feb. 4, 2015) --
According to Ross Township Police, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the deaths of 85-year-old Alfred Nalley and 86-year-old Margaret Nally as suicides.
The Medical Examiner's Office says both died from asphyxiation.
