2 Arrested For Dealing Heroin, Unknown If "Theraflu" Related
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police have made more arrests in relation to a particular kind of heroin, blamed for several overdose deaths.
Police say they were able to find a non-fatal overdose victim who used heroin from a bag marked "Theraflu."
Through information provided by the victim, police say they were able to track down two people distributing heroin from a McKees Rocks house.
The task force hit the house just before 9 a.m., catching the suspects off guard and in their bedrooms with some heavy weapons nearby.
"A stolen .9mm pistol, and a .44 magnum revolver," said McKees Rocks Police Chief Robert Cifrulak. "Luckily, they weren't in their possession when we hit the house."
The victim of the laced heroin that survived gave police enough information they were able to make undercover buys that led them to the two brothers.
Andre Hood was taken into custody on this his 45th birthday. His younger brother, identified as 30-year-old Damany Hayes, did not resist police.
With the help of a drug-sniffing K-9, investigators found what they were looking for.
"The drugs were found well hidden in the rafters of the basement," said Chief Cifrulak.
Authorities say they found heroin - six and a half bricks marked CVS - a total of two ounces raw and uncut, plus some stamped bags and some marijuana.
But whether the heroin is the stuff that's been killing users remains unknown.
"We have nothing to confirm that it is and the lab tests are pending to see if the Fentynal is mixed in with the heroin," Chief Cifrulak said.
The brothers are facing a litany of drug charges as the task force continues its investigation and search for the maker of the drug now known to have taken 14 lives, and perhaps as many as 22, so far.
