1st Civil Lawsuit Filed In PSU Sex Abuse Scandal
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The plaintiff -- identified only as John Doe -- is not one of the eight alleged victims cited in the Sandusky indictment -- but the suit traces the same sordid storyline.
"The sexual abuse of him began in 1992 at the age of 10. At that time, he was a promising athlete and Sandusky spotted him, and spotted his promise and began to groom him and that's what predators do," said his attorney Jeff Anderson.
The suit says once trust was gained, Sandusky molested the boy more than 100 times over the next four years at the coach's home, in a Penn State locker room, on trips to Philadelphia and a bowl game.
"There's a demonstrated record that the only one who could control him from continuing to act out on those uncontrollable sexual impulses were those around him and those in charge," Anderson said.
The suit names both Penn State and the Second Mile Foundation maintaining officials at both institutions had suspicions about Sandusky but did not intervene and even took pains to conceal it.
"And while they are concealing it, and making those choices to continue to put kids in risk, this young man now 29, almost 30, suffered in silence," Anderson said.
The plaintiff was not present but attorney Anderson read a statement from him saying:
"I am hurting and have been for a long time because of what happened, but feel now even more tormented that I have learned of so many other kids were abused after me."
The lawsuit is seeking a minimum of $400,000 in damages for abuse, negligence and emotional duress.
