19-Year-Old Killed, 3 Others Injured In Overnight Homestead Shootings
HOMESTEAD (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after a 19-year-old Homestead man was fatally wounded when shots were fired at his home overnight and three other people were wounded in a separate shooting nearby a short time later.
The victim's mother has identified him as 19-year-old Jamar Finn. She says her son was in the dining room when the shots rang out.
"All we heard was bang. Me and my daughter [we're] sitting in the living room, all we heard was 'bang, bang' coming through the dining room. I didn't know my son was hit," said Theresa Finn, the victim's mother. "I [saw] everybody, my nephew jumping over, and when I went in there, my nephew was telling him, "just hold on, hold on.'"
Theresa Finn, having just watched her son die after being shot, held onto his picture and more fond memories than what she just experienced.
"He just graduated from Everest, pharmacy technician," said Finn. "[He] played football since he was 3 for the Hazelwood Cobras."
The first of many gunshots were fired at their home in the 1200-block of East 10th Avenue just after midnight.
"They shot my baby sitting in his dining room, in his chair, in the chest and the leg. They took this pharmacy technician... had a whole life ahead of him. No gang related," she said. "He didn't leave this porch unless he was going to the store, back and forth."
As day broke, more family gathered and investigators tried to piece together how a gunman may have shot through a side window.
Homestead police, who doubt the overnight violence was random, are asking for the public's help.
"We're looking for that community input, that community help in solving a lot of these issues," said Chief Jeff DiSimone, of the Homestead Police Department. "Call us, tell us. We won't put your name out there… help us put that puzzle together. Give us a few pieces of the puzzle."
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Allegheny County Police.
Meanwhile, the second shooting happened about 20 minutes later at 17th Avenue and McClure Street.
Four people came out of house and got into a car just before the gunfire erupted. Three of the four people were wounded when 26 rounds were fired at the car.
Police are investigating if the shootings could be related.
They plan to have extra patrols, but add again that they need the public's help to help stop the violence.
