19-Year-Old Charged In Pierogies Plus Robbery To Stand Trial
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Robert Burton III, 19, had his first court appearance on charges connected to the robbery of Pierogies Plus in McKees Rocks earlier this month.
At the urging of his family, Burton surrendered to police after his picture from a surveillance camera was seen on various news outlets; also, police say they had various pieces of evidence linking him to the crime.
"We came together and we decided this is going to be the best move and most beneficial for Robert in the long run," said Blaine Jones, the defense attorney.
Police say three men entered Pierogies Plus around 11 p.m. on Aug. 6; one of them put a gun to an employee's head and money was taken from the cash register.
Police arrived while the robbery was in progress, but the suspects jumped from a rear window and got away. Burton now faces a number of charges.
"There are at least 14 charges, I believe, six or seven of which are serious felonies – robbery, burglary, carrying a firearm without a license."
McKees Rocks Police say surveillance video and pictures taken of three young men walking through town heading toward the Pierogies Plus was invaluable.
It not only led to Burton's arrest, but a 13-year-old was also arrested and taken to Schuman Center. Police are still looking for a third suspect in the robbery.
Meanwhile, Burton will now stand trial on the charges.
"Roberts is a young man with no history of violence; were trying to keep it that way."
