13-Year-Old Drives Car, Suffers Serious Injuries In Crash
FINDLEY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A teenage boy was hospitalized with serious injuries after he crashed the car he was too young to be driving.
It was around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday when the driver of a 2001 Honda Accord crashed his car on State Route 58 in Findley Township, Mercer County.
The driver in the crash was 13.
State police in Mercer say the young teen from Grove City was heading east on 58 when he lost control for an unknown reason, then traveled off the berm and down a four-foot embankment before hitting some small bushes and tall grass with the front of the car.
The car continued from there into a wooded area for approximately 315 feet before hitting a fallen tree and running over top of it.
The car came to its final resting spot after traveling 13 more feet into a wooded area.
A backpack rests in the back seat of the car in the lot where it was towed to at Mercer Auto Wreckers.
Medical gloves can be seen in the front passenger seat.
State police did not say who owns the car or why the boy was out alone at that hour.
The towing company says no one has stopped in yet to claim the car.
Firefighters were able to rescue the 13-year-old by taking the door off of the car. He was flown to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, where he is being treated for major injuries.
