12 Displaced By Hill District Fire
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Firefighters worked to put out a three-alarm fire in the Hill District Friday morning.
It started about 3:45 a.m. and consumed three row houses on Herron Avenue.
By 6 a.m., firefighters had the blaze under control.
"It took a lot of work to get to the fire, in the meantime it was in ceilings and extended to either side," Fire Chief Dan Hennessy said.
Officials say all of the residents are accounted for, but about a dozen people are out of their homes because of the fire.
"I was asleep, I had heard my neighbor telling us to get out -- the house was on fire, the building was on fire," one resident said. "I couldn't see nothing, I just ran, tried to grab my dog, I couldn't see nothing. It was bad, you couldn't see anything."
The fire chief said one male victim was treated for minor injuries, including burns and smoke inhalation and taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital.
The total damage of the fire is estimated at $150,000, officials said.
It's not clear yet what started the fire, but it is believed to have originated in the kitchen.
