11 Charged For Damage After Penn State Win; Tally Now $30K
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (KDKA/AP) -- Police say they have identified at least 11 people who may face charges in widespread damage following Penn State's upset victory over No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday night.
Ten are current or former Penn State students.
State College Police Chief John Gardner says he expects more people will be identified.
"I think the 2011 Sandusky riots were probably the worst we've ever seen here. Not to make light of these riots because to me they're all senseless acts that serve no legitimate purpose," said Chief Gardener.
Fans pulled down five streetlights, damaged streetlight globes and took about 20 streets signs and stop signs. Several small fires were also set, and at least one vehicle was damaged.
Police say 5,000 to 10,000 mostly college-aged fans gathered in downtown State College after the 24-21 victory.
Investigators are still reviewing video footage of the riot. They are also asking anyone who may have taken pictures or video during the incidents to contact them.
