$1 Million Powerball Ticket Sold In Baden

BADEN (KDKA) -- Someone in Beaver County is $1 million richer this holiday season.

According to lottery officials, a Powerball ticket matching all five white balls in the Dec. 22 drawing was sold in the Giant Eagle on W. State Street in Baden.

Clerks at the store's lottery counter know the man who won, he's been playing the same five numbers of 1-18-35-39-44 for two years.

"God bless 'em," Alice Digna of Baden said. "What a Christmas gift."

The clerks can't reveal the winner's identity yet, but say he casually walked in Monday morning and produced the winning ticket.

However, his ticket did not match the Powerball of 11.

"I'd still be happy -- $1 million," John Lee of Baden said. "You know what you can do with $1 million?"

And although the winner's identity is still a mystery, Giant Eagle employees say that he's retired, from Beaver County and a regular lottery player who was not overly excited about his winnings.

"Baden's a nice little town, I've lived here all my life, so, maybe it's someone I know or sometimes it's someone who needs the money," Denise Bauer said.

Some shoppers were excited for the winner, like Bauer, but others were slightly disgruntled by their loss.

"I'm quitting," one shopper said. "Honest to god, I never hit nothing.

A $1 million ticket was also sold in Schuylkill County.

Lottery officials say they cannot confirm the identity of either winner until each prize is claimed and the tickets are validated.

The stores that sold the tickets will each get a $5,000 bonus for selling a winning ticket.

The Powerball jackpot has now grown to an estimated annuity value of $50 million for Wednesday's drawing.
