1 Killed, 1 Injured After Driver Swerves To Avoid Cyclist, Crashes In Mercer Co.
DELAWARE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- One person was killed and another was critically injured when a car crashed after swerving to avoid a bicyclist in Mercer County Sunday morning.
The accident happened just before 8:30 a.m. along Delaware Road near the intersection with Folk Road in Delaware Township.
State police have identified the victim as 32-year-old Chandra Kodali of Fredonia. She was a passenger in the vehicle.
According to state police, 29-year-old Jeffrey Benninghoff of Fredonia was headed west on Delaware Road in his car when he swerved in order to avoid a cyclist on the side of the road.
Benninfhoff lost control of the vehicle, the car started to spin and then the passenger's side struck a utility pole.
Kodali was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene at 9:45 a.m.
Benninghoff was taken by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. He suffered critical injuries.
State police continue to investigate the crash.
