Man Shot In Stomach In Homewood Robbery

HOMEWOOD (KDKA) – Police are investigating an afternoon shooting that took place during a robbery in Homewood.

It happened just after 1 p.m. Sunday at the Topcat convenience store in the 600-block of North Homewood Avenue.

Two men wearing masks entered the store to rob it and shot a man twice in the stomach.

He was said to be in critical condition and was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital to undergo emergency surgery.

The man's coworkers said he is expected to recover.

Police say they believed a .40-caliber weapon was used and that the suspects might have been driving a silver car.

Police and used K-9 units to track footprints, but were unsuccessful.

Sunday night, the store was closed, but employees were there to mop the floors and clean up.

Because the store is located in an area that gets a lot of traffic, police are unclear if the robbery was random or the store was targeted.
