1 Dead In Beaver Co. Construction Site Accident
BEAVER FALLS (KDKA) – A man working at a construction site near a school in Beaver County was killed Thursday morning when authorities say he was stuck by a dump truck.
The accident happened around 10 a.m. at Highland Middle School in Chippewa.
The victim, identified by officials as 73-year-old David Knight, was a consultant on the project.
"A construction truck was backing along Shenago Road, and a worker got in behind it, and the driver did not see the individual and unfortunately struck him," said Chief Robert Berchtold, of Chippewa Police.
Classes were in session at the time, but school officials said students did not see the accident.
Some neighbors say the constant presence of construction equipment has had them unnerved.
"The trucks fly on this road every day," said Melissa Tweed, a neighbor. "The dump trucks, especially throughout this construction process, have been flying on this road day in and day out."
The construction is not expected to be completed until the summer of 2014.
Police say they do not plan to file charges against the driver of the truck.
OSHA is investigating the incident.
