1 dead in Duquesne shooting
DUQUESNE, Pa. (KDKA) — Police are searching for clues to solve a shooting that took the life of a female in Duquesne on Friday.
Detectives and K9 officers searched the area for evidence for several hours.
"Canvassing the neighborhood, looking for video, forensics are here, collecting forensic evidence," said Lt. Venerando Costa with the Allegheny County Police Department.
Detectives said the victim was a passenger in a Burgundy Chevy Cruze when gunfire rang out in the 700 block of Priscilla Ave. just after 5:10 pm.
Police discovered the car struck a white BMW after the shooting, but the driver was nowhere to be found.
"There was a female shot, she died on scene. That's all we have right now. We believe the driver of the vehicle fled, so we are trying to track that down," Costa said.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 14-year-old Lajaponis Roberts of Pittsburgh.
The Chevy Cruze was riddled with bullets. Multiple bullet holes could be seen in the windshield, passenger side door, and hood of the car.
Right now, detectives could use the community's help.
"If they saw something, give us a call on our tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS, talk with a detective and hopefully we can find out who did this," Lt. Costa said.
As police continue to search for the driver, they said they know who owns the vehicle. Detectives have not released the victim's age or identity.
Again, anyone with information can call Allegheny County police at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
