1 Dead, 3 Injured In Homewood Shooting
HOMEWOOD (KDKA) – One person was killed and three others were injured in a shooting early Sunday morning just after a bar closed its doors for the night in Homewood.
According to police, the shooting happened in the 7200-block of Kelly Street around 2 a.m.
The chaos and confusion started five minutes after Earl the Pearl's Lounge closed.
According to witnesses, two men got into a fight on the sidewalk. Within minutes, they say several other men ran to their cars and retrieved guns.
A witness, who did not want to be identified, says shots were fired as people ran for cover.
"The fight ended up right down the street here, and then the gunshots rang out, 15 of them, first time," the witness said. "As we were ducking to try to get into the car, another 15 rang out – boom, boom, boom again - the cars sped off, people ran and scattered everywhere."
When the shooting stopped, 27-year-old Antwon Underwood was found dead on the sidewalk from gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
Derrick Hemby owns the Earl the Pearl Lounge.
"I know the family of the victim and my heart goes out to them and my family sends their condolences, but once again, this is something that happened after the bar was closed and it didn't happen in the bar," said Hemby.
Three other victims were injured and were treated at local hospitals. A 33-year-old man was shot in the stomach, a 32-year-old man was shot multiple times and a 26-year-old woman was shot in the arm.
"When there's that many shots, there's no regard for innocent life," Hemby added. "[It's] just getting bad; it's not just happening around bars."
Meanwhile, police are hoping to talk to a man who was caught on surveillance video taken inside the bar. He's not a suspect, but detectives believe he was with Underwood when the shooting started and they think someone fired shots at him as well.
Video surveillance cameras outside the business recorded the shooting.
