1 Dead, 3 Injured In Beaver Co. Crash
HOPEWELL (KDKA) – One woman was killed and three people were injured in a Tuesday evening accident in Beaver County.
According to police, the accident happened around 11 p.m. between the Hopewell and Aliquippa exits of Interstate 376.
A Honda CR-V was traveling at a high-rate of speed in the left lane on the westbound side of the road. As the driver attempted to move into the right lane, the vehicle struck the rear, left corner of a Dodge Durango.
As a result of the impact, the Durango struck the guardrail on the right side of the road, rolled at least twice before going over the guardrail and continued down an embankment before striking a tree.
The woman who was killed in the crash was a passenger in the Durango. She has been identified as Renina Newton, 25, of Aliquippa.
Newton was a student at the Community College of Beaver County. She was taking prerequisites for nursing school and was enrolled to start nursing clinical classes in the fall.
CCBC released a statement saying:
"We are sad about the loss of this promising young person who wanted to share her caring through the profession of nursing. We extend our deepest condolences to her family."
Both drivers and two children in the Durango were injured in the crash. Both of the kids, ages 5 and 8, were taken to Children's Hospital, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The drivers of both vehicles were taken to Heritage Valley Medical Center.
