1 Dead, 2 Injured In Fayette Co. Crash
SPRINGHILL TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – One person was killed and two were injured in a Monday night crash in Fayette County.
According to police, the accident happened on New Geneva Road in Springhill Township around 7:02 p.m.
A Chevrolet Silverado being driven by Randall Breaux, 35, of Lafayette, La., was traveling south when it crossed the center line and hit an oncoming GMC Sonoma head-on.
Sheldon Smith, 60, of Morgantown, W. Va., was driving the Sonoma and was killed in the crash.
Breaux and a 13-year-old girl from Brownfield, Pa., who is believed to be his daughter, were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital, but their conditions are unknown.
"The driver did sustain some significant injuries," said Trooper Stefani Plume. "The female, the 13-year-old, that was involved in the crash did sustain injuries, but not anywhere near as serious as the driver of the vehicle."
State Police are continuing the investigation, including the accident investigation and the results of toxicology tests are pending. State Police added that the surviving driver will be facing charges.
"Anytime that happens, anytime there's any death or serious injury involved in a crash, that's just standard protocol," said Trooper Plume. "We'll have our reconstructionists come out and reconstruct the scene, and any type of medical records that we're able to obtain to determine whether or not alcohol played a factor or anything like that, that's just standard protocol."
There's no word on the full list of the charges Breaux is facing.
Meanwhile, it could be a couple weeks before state police know the results of the toxicology tests.
