1 Dead, 1 Injured In Beaver County Fire
BIG BEAVER (KDKA) – One woman was killed and another person was injured in an early Thursday morning fire in Beaver County.
According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out at a home in the 1300-block of Shenango Road in Big Beaver around 2:05 a.m.
Roger Bilyou lives in the home and said his brother woke him up and told him half of the kitchen and living room were on fire.
"My brother came down and told me to get out that half of the kitchen and half of the living room caught fire," Bilyou said.
Bilyou initially thought he was joking until he saw the flames. The brother ran upstairs to try and get his common-law wife out, but was overcome by smoke.
The woman did not make it out and died as a result.
"She couldn't walk. She just came from the hospital and she needed oxygen,"Bilyou said.
Bilyou's brother was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital with smoke inhalation and burns.
"When we pulled on scene, the front of the house heavily involved. We made an exterior attack and then switched to an interior," Big Beaver Fire Chief Adam Crepp said.
The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
