1 Dead, 1 Injured In Armstrong Co. Crash
PARKS TOWNSHIP (KDKA)- One woman was killed and her younger sister was injured in a crash early Sunday morning in Armstrong County.
According to state police, the accident happened on River Road near Penn Avenue in Parks Township around 1:20 a.m.
Investigators say a Ford 500 was traveling east on River Road when the driver failed to negotiate a left curve in the road. As a result, the vehicle struck a guard rail and rolled over down an embankment before coming to rest on its roof in the Kiski River.
The passenger in the vehicle died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. She has been identified as Nicole Dibler, 26, of Vandergrift.
"She was my girl," said Phyllis Tressler, the girls' grandmother. "She was my special granddaughter."
The driver suffered minor injuries in the accident. She has been identified as Michelle Dibler, 23, also of Vandergrift.
Ironically, Nicole died beside the same person who earlier in her life saved her.
"Nicole had leukemia when she was 6-years-old," said Tressler. "She had a bone marrow transplant by her sister."
The sisters were reportedly coming home from Michelle's bachelorette party.
"She was getting married next Saturday," Tressler added. "Nicole was going be the maid of honor."
According to her grandmother, Michelle remains in the hospital where she is being treated for various non-life-threatening injuries.
According to state police, Michelle Dibler may have been driving under the influence and possibly speeding at the time of the crash.
