Father, Son Charged In Fatal Lawrenceville Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A father and son are facing charges following a deadly shooting near a convenience store in Lawrenceville on Saturday afternoon.

According to investigators, an argument between two men turned deadly at the Quick Stop convenience store in the 3300-block of Liberty Avenue right across from the Pittsburgh Brewing Company.

Pittsburgh police have identified the suspect as 24-year-old Maurice Tigney and his father as 52-year-old Darrell Tigney. They are both facing charges of criminal homicide.

"The victim fled from the passenger side of the suspect's truck towards his own vehicle when Darryl Tigney got out of the truck and confronted the victim," said Commander Thomas Stangrecki, of Pittsburgh Police.

"All of the sudden I heard thee loud pops, which sounded like gunfire, and then we came outside and noticed there was a commotion going on at the Quick Stop," said one witness.

It was around 4 p.m. when police say the suspected shooter and his father got into a confrontation with the victim.

Police say as the suspect's father and the victim were arguing, the suspected shooter got a gun out of their truck and shot the man in the chest.

The victim then ran inside the store and neighbors called 911.

"He looks like he's going to die," said the witness. "He looked bad; he had blood all over his shirt and chest and blood on the floor, and he was extremely skin color, looked extremely pale and sweaty."

The victim was rushed to the hospital but he did pass away. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has identified him as 46-year-old Gary Hager of Ross Township.

The suspect reportedly gave himself up to police at the scene.

While at police headquarters, his father had to be taken out by ambulance for diabetes related health problems.
