1 Critically Injured In Homewood Shooting

HOMEWOOD (KDKA) – One man was critically wounded in Homewood shooting Tuesday night.

According to police, the shooting happened in the 1000-block of Brushton Avenue around 8:25 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found 21-year-old Dayon Shelton suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Shelton was rushed to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where he was last listed in critical condition.

During the course of their investigation, police have determined that at least 25 shots were fired at Shelton as he was either getting in or out of a vehicle. It is believed the gunman was in a nearby parking lot and used a high-powered rifle.

Shelton ran and collapsed about 50 yards from the gunman.

"Bullets don't have eyes, they don't have names," says a woman who was in her home nearby when the shots were fired. "They can ricochet and hit a kid or anything and like, we can just be sitting here looking at the TV and get shot, like if somebody's shooting at someone else."

She says a bullet came too close to her house.

"We have a bullet hole that came through the window," she said. "It landed in the wall, but everybody's OK."

Three vehicles and a nearby house were struck by bullets. One bullet went through the roof of the house and into the bedroom of a young boy.

Fortunately, there are no other reported injuries.

No arrests have been made, but anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Squad at (412)-323-7161.
