North Side Man Arrested After Bank Robbery Attempt
RESERVE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A man is facing charges after an unusual bank robbery attempt.
It all started shortly after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Allegheny Valley Bank in the 2000-block of Mount Troy Road.
KDKA's Marty Griffin says police describe the alleged robber, Thomas Weismantle, as a strung out drug addict. He walked into the bank, demanded cash and then sat down in a chair.
Police say Weismantle was despondent.
"I see this gentleman sitting on a chair and automatically the teller pointed him out as the man who attempted to rob the bank, I placed him into cuffs and took him into custody," Reserve Township Police Chief Fred Boory said.
Weismantle was arrested just five minutes after the attempted robbery. Police say he had walked to the bank after drinking in a bar.
