Wildfires tear through Northern, Southern California
Firefighters battle the Camp Fire as it burns through Paradise, Calif., on Nov. 8, 2018. Tens of thousands of people fled the fast-moving wildfire in Northern California, some clutching babies and pets as they abandoned vehicles and struck out on foot ahead of the flames that forced the evacuation of an entire town. Thousands of buildings have been destroyed.
The death toll from the Camp Fire has risen to more than 80, making it the deadliest wildfire in state history. Authorities say hundreds of people are unaccounted for.
Three more deaths have been attributed to the Woolsey Fire in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. That blaze was fully contained on the evening of Nov. 21, 2018.

Nurse Darrel Wilken told the Chico Enterprise-Record newspaper on Friday that the fire came so quickly that he and other employees at the Feather River Hospital used their own cars to evacuate patients. Wilken said he took three patients in his car and that two of them were in critical condition. He says he battled gridlocked traffic on a road surrounded on both sides by fire.
