On Sept. 28, 2008, Matthew Novack, of Philadelphia, was in search of jumper cables to start a friend's car when he hitched a ride in a Chevrolet Impala, believed to have contained three black men. Moments later, the 24-year-old was found shot just a few blocks away. He died a few hours later from his injures.
