What am I seeing?
Some images just seem to need more explanation than others.
In our weekly series, we share images from the news that piqued our curiosity and raised questions.
Not your usual work attire here.
No-Face Day
Staff wear No-Face masks at a service company in Handan, China, July 14, 2015.
Working at a service company requires staff to smile to customers everyday. On No-Face Day, the staff wear No-Face masks to reduce performance pressure and relax.
No-Face is a silent masked creature who has no facial expressions in the Japanese animated fantasy film "Spirited Away."
A slightly different concept from casual Fridays.
What am I seeing?
Sort of looks like a person surfing a wave, but can't be.
Waterslide
A visitor is silhouetted as she slides down a huge waterside at a public swimming pool on a hot sunny day in Vienna, July 22, 2015.
Looks like a great way to cool off in the summer.
'Man Walking to the Sky'
Walking vertically is very tricky stuff.
'Man Walking to the Sky'
Doves fly in front of 'Man Walking to the Sky.'
What am I seeing?
There's hanging out a window and then there's hanging onto a window. Why are they hanging on is the question.
Toro de Cuerda
People hold onto windows to avoid a bull during the Toro de Cuerda (Bull on Rope) festival in Grazalema, southern Spain, July 20, 2015.
Three bulls restrained by a rope are allowed to run through the streets of the village during the annual festival. Guess Spaniards like running away from bulls and the Running of the Bulls in northern Spain isn't enough.
Those folks don't seem so convinced about the 'restraining' nature of that rope. Don't blame them.
What am I seeing?
Did they do something wrong that they got arrested?
Swan Upping
David Barber, the Queens Swan Marker, lifts a swan ashore during the annual Swan Upping (census) along the river Thames, at Staines-on-Thames, southern England, July 20, 2015.
Cygnets (young swans) are counted and swans and cygnets are measured and assessed for signs of injury or disease during the ceremony.
The five-day census dates back to the twelfth century when the Crown claimed ownership of all mute swans.
The next question is -- what's a 'mute' swan?
What am I seeing?
Footsie with Rubix Cubes. New massage technique?
Rubik's Cube World Championship
Blindfolded participants compete in the Rubik's Cube World Championship in Sao Paulo, Brazil, July 17, 2015.
In the previous photo, people use their toes to 'solve' the cubes.
Seems sort of an exercise in how many different ways you can make solving a Rubik Cube even more difficult than it already is.
What am I seeing?
A dinosaur with a hat on his head. Mannequin next to it. We know there's a good story here.
Weird robot hotel
A receptionist dinosaur robot performs at the new robot hotel, aptly called Henn na Hotel or Weird Hotel, in Sasebo, southwestern Japan.
From the receptionist that does the check-in and check-out to the porter that's a stand-on-wheels taking luggage up to the room, the hotel which is part of Huis Ten Bosch amusement park, is "manned" almost totally by robots to save labor costs.
In the previous photo, two receptionist robots greet a hotel employee demonstrating how to check in.
We'd stay there.
What am I seeing?
Nice blue runner through town. Fashion show? Tent covering?
Giant water slide
A man wearing a Guy Fawkes mask enjoys a ride on a 350-meter (1148 feet) long water slide during 2015 City Silde Festa in central Seoul, July 19, 2015.
Giant water slide
A man on a dolphin-shaped float -- we like the water toys.
What am I seeing?
Why, oh why are they walking around in large bubbles?
Bubble soccer
Players encased in giant plastic inflatable balls attempt to kick a ball during their bubble soccer match in Beijing.
In the previous photo, the caption said organizers of "Bubble soccer" on Boston Common believe this form of soccer, with full contact between players wearing large air filled plastic bubbles, is a way to reduce stress during the lunch hour.
Bubble soccer
Players encased in giant plastic inflatable balls have a little trouble trying to kick a ball during their bubble soccer match in Beijing.
We can definitely see getting a few laughs out of this form of exercise, but there's clearly potential for total frustration if you're the competitive type and actually want to kick the ball to a goal.
