What am I seeing?
Some images just seem to need more explanation than others.
In our weekly series, we share images from the news that piqued our curiosity and raised questions.
How's he doing that so high up?
Wingsuit
A participant in a wingsuit prepares to fly above Tianmen Mountain during the 4th Red Bull WWL China Grand Prix in Zhangjiajie, China, October 16, 2015.
Wingsuits apparently add surface area to the body giving sport participants more lift. The first wingsuit was developed in the 1990s with fabric between one's legs and under their arms. They've been called "bird man suits" and "flying squirrel suits."
At least it looks like have parachutes on their backs to help them land safely.
What am I seeing?
Just some candles on the shoulders and head... to what end?
Dashain
A devotee offers oil lamps on top of his body as part of a ritual during Dashain, the biggest religious festival for Hindus in Bhaktapur, Nepal, October 22, 2015.
Hindus in Nepal celebrate victory over evil during the festival by flying kites, feasting, sacrificing animals and worshipping the goddess Durga, as well as other gods and goddesses, as part of celebrations held throughout the country.
What am I seeing?
This really isn't what it looks like.
Wake
Victor Perez Cardona sits embalmed in his taxi, his final wish, during his wake at the San Cristobal funeral parlor in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico. Perez Cardona was a taxi driver and his family decided, with the help of a local funeral home, to honor his final request and seat him one more time in his cab.
In this photo, the dead body of Jomar Aguayo is seated at a table with domino tiles and a condom placed in one of his hands in San Juan, October 19, 2015. Aguayo's family decided to have him sit at a table at his mother's bar for the wake. Aguayo was 23 years old when he was shot dead during a shootout.
Wondering if this is going to become a trend.
What am I seeing?
Good resting spot for water bottles.
Aeronautical training
Freshmen in Zhengzhou Institute of Aeronautical Industry Management "head" bottles of water upright during training in Zhengzhou, China.
Guess pilots need a good sense of balance.
What am I seeing?
Interesting dog toys.
Astra Joan - mine detection dog
Astra Joan, a mine detection dog from Lebanon, sniffs inert samples of various mines, during a demonstration in Washington, D.C., October 20, 2015.
Over the past five years she and her handler, Lebanese army sergeant Ahmad Solh, have scoured the battlefields of Lebanon for land-mines and unexploded bombs. Named by sniffer dog charitable foundation, The Marshall Legacy Institute, as the champion mine-clearers of the year, they came to the U.S. to promote their work.
The seven-year-old German Shepherd mine-clearance expert ignored the defused weaponry arrayed on the conference table, but perked up when a box of donuts was opened. Clearly a dog who knows she's doing.
What am I seeing?
Looks cool no matter what it's about.
"Human Net"
Singapore volunteers form a "50", commemorating Singapore's 50th year of independence this year, as they perform the "Human Net" choreographed by Spanish performance troupe La Fura dels Baus, suspended over the Singapore River, during the opening of the Singapore River Festival, October 23, 2015.
What am I seeing?
Bad back? ... Seems like this would make it worse.
Exercise technique
A woman climbs on hands and feet for exercise at Zhengzhou Shang City Archaeological Site Park in Zhengzhou, China, October 22, 2015.
Lyu Peiwan, doctor of Henan Hospital of TCM, said that climbing on hands and feet, which imitated animals, could distribute one's weight on four limbs to reduce stress loads from the waist down.
But since our legs are generally longer than our arms this seems just plain uncomfortable. Plus, it would be hard to see where you're going.
What am I seeing?
Birthday time... though the scarf seems strange birthday attire.
Israeli-Palestinian clashes
A Palestinian protester uses a sling to hurl stones towards Israeli troops during clashes near the Jewish settlement of Bet El, near the West Bank city of Ramallah, October 23, 2015.
In the previous photo, protesters had a cake as they celebrate a comrade's birthday during clashes with Israeli troops.
Good to know people can take time out for friends during civil unrest.
What am I seeing?
Bread necklaces? At least the two match.
Ban K-moon visits Bolivia
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon waves as he leaves the sports arena "Coliseo Ban Ki-Moon" in Vila Vila, south of Cochabamba in Bolivia on October 11, 2015.
Ban Ki-moon was in Bolivia for the World People's Conference on Climate Change and the Defense of Life.
No explanation about the bread unfortunately. Chalk it up to local cultural traditions. He's a good sport for going along with it, but then world leaders need to do things like that.
What am I seeing?
A tourist taking photos of the ocean, right?
What am I seeing?
Actually... not.
Mountain guide Christian Pletscher walks on the Aletsch Glacier in Switzerland. One of Europe's biggest glaciers, the Great Aletsch coils 23 km (14 miles) through the Swiss Alps.
What am I seeing?
It still looks like a beautiful, turbulent ocean, doesn't it?
