These images provided by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums show those who were convicted of crimes in Newcastle, England between 1871 - 1873

William Harrison, 51, a porter from Durham, was sentenced to 12 months in Newcastle Gaol in 1872 after he was convicted of obtaining oats by false pretense.

Mary Ann Ross, 34, worked as a prostitute and was convicted of theft of money many times, but on this occasion her sentence was for six months in Newcastle Gaol.

John Grieveson, 21, had to serve four months at Newcastle Gaol after being convicted of stealing pigeons.

Mary Patterson, 25, served a six-week sentence after being convicted of stealing poultry in 1873.

Charles Burns, 19, was a miner from Liverpool who was sentenced to three months after being convicted of false pretenses.

Alice Mullholland, 18, was a hawker from Newcastle and was sentenced to three months in Newcastle Gaol after being convicted of stealing boots.

David Barron, 19, was a cabinet maker who was convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment for stealing champagne along with an accomplice.

Agnes Stewart, 28, was a married woman from Edinburgh and was convicted of money theft.

Edward Shevlin, 32, was a laborer from Ireland and was sentenced to six months to prison after he was caught stealing a coat.

Catherine Flynn, 34, was sentenced to six months at Newcastle Gaol after being convicted of stealing money from another person.

Ezekiel Yates, 35, was a grocer from Penrith and had to serve six months at Newcastle City Gaol after he was convicted of stealing tobacco.

Thomas Smith, 32, was sentenced to three months after he and two accomplices defrauded another gentlemen in 1873

James Richley, 30, was caught stealing trivets, which were used as supports for kettles, and had to serve seven days of hard labor at Newcastle Gaol

John Roman, 64, was a tailor from Germany and had to serve t 14 days of hard labor for stealing clothes in 1873

Mary Ann McCasfrey, 41, was a hawker from Newcastle and was given a four-month sentence for stealing a gold watch from another person.

Robert Bolam, 20, was a laborer from Gateshead and was sentenced to six months along with two other accomplices for stealing clothes

Robert Hardy, 21, was ordered to serve four months at Newcastle Gaol for stealing ale in 1873 with two accomplices.
